I’m used to being the only female when I’m doing physics things. I was the only girl in my physics class in secondary school, so it doesn’t bother me and I’ve never had any problems with it. But the group I’m currently working with has 5 women and only one man in it (and the boss is a woman), so it’s getting more balanced.

      Well, I know I’m not a woman, 🙂 but…

In all the different fields I’ve worked and studied in the mix of men and women has varied a lot. When I worked in medicine there were a lot of women. In my current job many of the people I work with are men – but the women are from more technical subjects like maths and physics! Please don’t let these sorts of worries put you off doing what you’re interested in.
