  One day, when our Sun runs out of Hydrogen to fuse into Helium, it will undergo the process of a dying star. The dying process of a star depends on how big the star is to begin with, but I think ours will become a red giant, explode and then turn into a white dwarf. I need an astrophysicist to confirm this, but I’m pretty sure our planet won’t survive after this process. Don’t worry though, our Sun has many millons of years of Hydrogen left.

  Well, a looooooong time in the future, there will probably be the heat death of the universe.
  
  Before that our sun will destroy planet earth, but that’s not going to happen for millions of years (as James has said).
  
  Before that, the biggest threat to the world as we know it is climate change and environmental disaster caused by humans. The rock called earth would still exist, but the plants, animals and other kinds of life might be destroyed or radically changed.
  
  Will the world end in 2012? I don’t think there’s any particular reason to think it will.

  The world will end one day, yes. If nothing else, the sun will eventually die, and then we’re all in trouble. But that’s a long way away – we need to focus on making sure people don’t mess it up first!

  Yes one day though we are a long way off from that. I think we have about 4billion years to go.

  Yes the world will end with a pretty epic explosion of the Sun, It’ll be a while off yet though. I think Humans will be traveling the universe by then
